IDEA 2000 Adventures

	Munising 2003 Although the temps got close, they never dropped below zero F. but the winds coming off the 500 miles of exposed water of Superior, with only a few rare exceptions, never stopped blowing. It was cold.
	The Rossland Ski Week, February 17 to 23, 2002 We were a small group of diabetics, family members, and friends, all keen on skiing, especially backcountry. We also wanted to exchange ideas and techniques for managing our diabetes, especially while participating in our favorite winter sport.
	Skiing Quandary's East Ridge April 28th 2001 Once again, another fun and successful outing with a group of IDEA 2000 members…On Saturday, July 15^th, some of the Colorado-based members of IDEA 2000 spent a day climbing the West Ridge of Mt. Quandary, a 14,000+ foot mountain just outside of Breckenridge, Colorado...

Success on Aconcagua Dec 25, 2000 - Jan 21, 2001

April 27, 2002	One of the keynote speakers at the Canadian Diabetes Association “Parenting Kids with Type 1 Diabetes” Conference in Vancouver, BC (April 27, 2002). At that point I was 7 months pregnant & some of the parents there were very encouraged to see a pregnant diabetic! (I think that a lot of the parents fear that their children will never be able to have children). I also mentioned, at the end, that 2 other members of the summit team had become fathers in the past 8 months which amused some and intrigued some others!
18-22nd April 2002	Ernest Bladé, David Panofsky and Jordi Admetlla presented at the 5th World Congress on Mountain Medicine and High Altitude Physiology in Barcelona.
February 28, 2002	"Type 1 Diabetes" in Burnaby, BC. This event was organized by IDAA Canada & Auto Control Medical and Auto Control.

	Denali, May 2002 On Thursday, 9 May 2002, I was finally able to board a plane at Findel airport in Luxembourg to start my journey to Anchorage, Alaska. It would take me 27 hours and stops in Amsterdam and Minneapolis to get there. During the flights I had to inject small doses of insulin on a regular basis in order to compensate for the time difference of ten hours. In the meantime I felt how the anxieties and nervousness of the previous weeks slowly disappeared.
	Mt Rainier, Summer 2002 Washington State's highest place is Mount Rainier at 14,411 ft (4392 m). It is a massive snow and ice covered dormant volcano located in the Western Cascade Range. The mountain has the largest glacier system in all of the USA, with the exception of Alaska. Given the mountain's great beauty, proximity to Seattle, and variety of routes including a number of easy glacier slogs, the mountain attracts lots of folks.
	Bochette Way Summer 2001 Our planned route was supposed to descend the either side of the Col down a "steep descent into the uppermost part of the Val Perse". After our experience of the Jaegigrats ‘unappealing Puiseauz couloir’ in Switzerland, we figured we were now somewhat experts in steep couloirs! We hadn’t however, anticipated an incredibly steep snow couloir. This somewhat changed things...
